Hasan bin Sabbah was a medieval Muslim theologian, philosopher, and revolutionary figure who lived in the 11th century CE. Hasan bin Sabbah was founder of the Nizari Ismaili state and established a fortress at Alamut, in present-day Iran, and began to build a network of followers who were loyal to him.
